Sources for Finding Accessible Transportation Services

We frequently receive requests for referrals to accessible transportation services through our national information line. The following resources are provided to assist individuals in finding transportation services in their community.

National resources

The American Public Transportation Association (APTA) maintains an online catalog of public transportation systems by state and county across the U.S., including links to individual system Web sites.
AARP hosts an online State-by-State Guide to Transportation Assistance, with links to state and local programs that provide transportation services for older Americans.
The national 211 program is becoming increasingly available as a source of information and referral for local community services. An an easy-to-remember telephone number, 211 connects callers with important community services (including transportation services) and volunteer opportunities. The number is available on a state-by-state basis, with the current status of 211 states found online. If 211 is not yet active in your community, your local United Way or county department of human services may be able to refer you to transportation services or volunteer drivers in your community.
The national 511 system is also becoming increasingly available as a source of information on travel options, including public transit. An easy-to-remember telephone number, 511 connects callers with information on the travel options in their community.
