"Excellent" opportunity available again for new paratransit managers Following a successful launch this fall, the new course "Excellence in Service for Paratransit Managers" will be offered again starting Jan. 28. ESPA will present the free eight-week training as an online course, covering the history of the disability movement, how to engage the disability community, and what managers need to know to better understand and serve people with disabilities.
Resource materials are now available for next People on the Move event Sensitivity Training will be the next topic of Easter Seals Project ACTION's People on the Move: Using All Transportation Options (ADA and Beyond...). The second of nine planned POTM distance learning events will be from 2-3 p.m. Eastern time Dec. 3. Registration is required but there is no cost. Resource materials useful to learners are now available for download.
New book celebrates history of ESPA and the accessible transportation movement This year of 2008 saw the 20th anniversary of Easter Seals Project ACTION. To celebrate not only a milestone, but the contributions of many to the advancement of accessible transportation over the past two decades, ESPA presents this salute, available online or as a full-color 44-page book available individually or in quantity free of charge.

NCST announces distance learning events The National Center on Senior Transportation and the American Society on Aging developed "Mobility Equals Independence," a special pair of free one-hour Web seminars. These seminars will help providers, planners and elder advocates throughout the country gain insight into transportation issues facing older adults and assist them as they create a vision for change. Also, on Dec. 9 the NCST will host a live audio conference with two guest speakers from Westat, a Rockville, Md.-based research corporation. NTI schedules training classes for December and January The National Transit Institute has announced the scheduling of two more of its free "T-Classes" in December and January. The class titled "Policies and Practices for Effectively and Efficiently Meeting ADA Paratransit Demand" will be presented twice to give all interested individuals a chance to participate on one of the two dates. ATI launches new e-newsletter The Association of Travel Instruction (ATI) announces the availability of its new online newsletter, The Road Ahead E-News. ATI, a valued partner with Project ACTION on travel training opportunities, is a nonprofit association incorporated in 2001 to provide continuing education and professional development opportunities to its members, including travel trainers and travel instructors who teach older adults and persons with differing disabilities to use fixed-route public bus and rail systems independently and safely.
